Constant C Review

LET’S NOT DO THE TIME WARP AGAIN

Way too often, at the end of a console’s life cycle, a few smaller indie titles will pass along with little mention or fanfare. Some of these games are true diamonds in the rough, largely unnoticed by the masses flocking to the newer and shinier consoles. Constant C, one of the latest PlayStation 3 releases, is not one of these games.

Resogun: Heroes Expansion Review

A VIDEO GAME NAMED OBSESSION

Hi, my name is Lou Contaldi and it’s been five months since my last Resogun binge. That was, until the addiction managed to find its way back. Nearly seven months after the PlayStation 4 exclusive was released, Housemarque announced a new batch of DLC content to bring players back to the addictive gameplay of the previous PlayStation Plus title. However, does the newest expansion, Heroes, do enough to hold a candle to the main gameplay, or is the title’s glory days over?

The Wolf Among Us: Episode 5 — Cry Wolf Review

It has happened.  I was finally able to finish the exciting conclusion to A Wolf Among Us, and I didn’t even have to turn every character into a human Pez-dispenser to close my case.  Bill Williamson’s video game adaptation of his series Fables finishes its last chapter, captured in a modern day New York City.   Continue reading The Wolf Among Us: Episode 5 — Cry Wolf Review

Valiant Hearts: The Great War Review

MORE ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE THAN THE ACTUAL GAMEPLAY

In an industry where most war games are shooters in some fashion, Valiant Hearts: The Great War stands out. Valiant Hearts is a puzzle adventure game, and by far the most interesting take on a war game I have ever experienced.   Continue reading Valiant Hearts: The Great War Review

BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Review (Vita)

THE WHEEL OF FATE HAS NOT STOPPED YET

BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma, the third major entry in the BlazBlue series, has finally arrived on the PlayStation Vita. This latest release brings with it new characters, new mechanics, and of course a new chapter in the notoriously complicated story of Ragna the Bloodedge. But do these new additions live up to the well-respected BlazBlue name? Continue reading BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Review (Vita)

Shovel Knight Review

THE BEST MEGA MAN GAME EVER MADE

Each year there are a plethora of indie titles, many of them which are naturally described as “a love letter to classic gaming”. These games, like Mercenary Kings or Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Videogame, try their best to recreate the magic of the NES or SNES era. However, while these other titles attempt to mimic the unique style of these classic titles, Shovel Knight is one of the only ones able to systematically reimagine and perfect the experience. In short, Shovel Knight is a must-get if you are or have ever been a classic gamer.

Magical Beat Review

DROPPING BLOCKS AND DROPPING BEATS

Have you ever wondered what happened if Japan made Tetris instead of Russia? Have you wished that games like Rock Band required more thought than just reflexes? If you answered yes to those questions, please note that they were completely rhetorical, and I would like to introduce you to Arc System Works’ Magical Beat, a Japanese rhythm-puzzle game that recently made its way to the PS Vita. So, has this game hit all the right notes, or is it just tone-deaf?

Entwined Review

FEELS LIKE A STUDENT PROJECT BECAUSE IT IS

During Sony’s E3 Press Conference, one of the more surprising announcements was the reveal (and simultaneous release) of Entwined on the PlayStation 4. This was by no means an announcement from nowhere — early on in April, Sony trademarked the name of the title (along with KILL STRAIN). Though we took our guesses of what Entwined was going to turn out to be, no one was able to predict the Flower-eque entangled love story between a bird and a fish. How does Pixelopus’ fledgling game hold up against the indie competition? Continue reading Entwined Review
