Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Final Mix Review

About three minutes after playing Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix (I had to take a breather to soak all of the game in) I promptly started up the menu for the prequel to the series, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep Final Mix. However, unlike with the previous game, I hadn’t played Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep when it originally came out on the Play Station Portable in 2010. Despite generally positive reviews during its launch, the question still lingered: how would the last-gen handheld game fare on home consoles?

Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix Review

Almost 10 years ago, I remember sitting in my basement during middle school, anxiously waiting for my PlayStation 2 to load Kingdom Hearts II so that I could start playing. The past few weeks, I found myself doing the same thing, only this time it was with my PlayStation 3, while cramped in my college bedroom.  And, just like back then, excitement welled up inside of me that would continue while I played the game, as well as much longer afterwards. The Kingdom Hearts series has captivated many Square Enix and Disney fans alike over the years. Whether looking for similarities to Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series or just enjoying the childish wonder that Disney brings, Kingdom Hearts II has generated interest and appeal from players and fans alike.

Fantasy Hero: Unsigned Legacy Review

LOOKING FOR A HERO

Arc System Works is a developer with long standing ties to the video game industry, reaching all the way back to porting Double Dragon for the Sega Genesis in 1988. They have also worked on several well-known franchises such as the Guilty Gear series and the fighting franchise BlazBlue. Fantasy Hero: Unsigned Legacy is Arc Systems Works’ latest game, and is a dungeon crawler with a hint of Monster Hunter for the PlayStation Vita. While I have never played one of Arc System Works’ games before, I was definitely intrigued by Fantasy Hero, as it seemed like it might offer some twists in the well tread dungeon crawler genre.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Review

THE DEFINITIVE PARTY GAME

Let me set the scene: It is 11 PM on a Friday, ten of my friends are sitting around the big screen (beer in hand) as we focus our unblinking attention to Dark Samus, Wario, and Donkey Kong decking it out on Brinstar. Amid the cheers and the insults, Meta Ridley comes swooping down, knocking everyone off the map. The tide of battle shifts as everyone targets the flying purple foe. In the rush of the excitement, I quickly realized that gaming hasn’t given me a similar experience in nearly a decade. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is a force to be reckoned with, merging nostalgia and polish into what is definitively the best party game of this generation. LittleBigPlanet 3 Review

AAA, LittleBigPlanet Style

In a holiday environment filled with the exosuits of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, the medieval violence of Dragon Age: Inquisition and the deep stories of games like Assassin’s Creed Unity, sometimes a nice lighthearted game is just what we need. Sony is happy to oblige with the latest edition to the LittleBigPlanet family: LittleBigPlanet 3, a fun customizable platformer that follows Sackboy and his new friends as they embark on a lovely adventure together. Well, almost.

Dragon Age: Inquisition Review

THE MOST EPIC ADVENTURE… EVER!

Let’s get this out of the way first so that there is no confusion — Dragon Age: Inquisition is absolutely amazing.  There are few games that can make me forget about reality and force me to neglect my real life responsibilities; this happens to be one of them.  After logging 125 hours as the Inquisitor, I was finally satisfied enough with my journey to finish the last story mission and move on with my life.  However, that being said, 125 hours was not enough to complete every side quest and it would likely take me another 20-40 hours to accomplish that. TELL ME ALL YOUR TALES

Telltale Games has established quite a pedigree over the past few years. They came out of nowhere with the wildly successful first season of The Walking Dead after having decent success with titles such as Back to the Future and Jurassic Park. Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Review

HOW REMAKES SHOULD BE DONE

It has been a long and hopeful 12 years, but the remakes of Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire have arrived! The first Pokémon remake on the Nintendo 3DS, Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire wonderfully translates the Game Boy Advance games to the 3D realm. Whether you’re a veteran Pokémon master, or someone who is yearning to try something new, these games are absolute gems.  Continue reading Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Review

Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed Review

A STRIPPED-DOWN OPEN-WORLD ADVENTURE WITH A TON OF CHARM

Scroll down for PS4 Update.

Akiba’s Trip: Undead & Undressed, developed by Acquire and published by XSEED, is an odd game, but you could probably tell that from the title. It doesn’t help that the stylized title seems to read “Akiba Strip”, which, as the subtitle implies, is intentional. I think a lot of people were awfully dismissive of the game based on that alone, and the premise of the game (read on to find out) certainly didn’t help. Underneath all the first impressions, Akiba’s Trip is a modern supernatural action RPG with a sharply satirical sense of humor. But does the game stand on its own two feet? Game of Thrones: Iron From Ice Review

WORTHY BEGINNINGS

Ever since their massive success with The Walking Dead: Season One and Season Two, Telltale Games has become widely known for games that focus on story and the player’s freedom to mold it. More than a complex control scheme, Telltale’s games depend on the choices you make and the alliances you form with other characters. Pouring through the details of the game’s dialogue trees and exploring the world with a keen eye can mean the difference between life and death for a friend, success or failure in pursuit of your goals. The HBO series, Game of Thrones, finds itself quite at home in such a frame.
