PlayStation Experience 2016 Recap

Today was the third annual PlayStation Experience. This two Day event shows what the PlayStation brand has in store for the next year. The first show was in 2014 with a complete reveal of the then-new PlayStation 4. This year, it was all about the games. It moved at a breakneck pace with very little presenters talking about the success of the system. They let the games speak for themselves.

The show began with a demo of a woman walking around in a war-torn street. It was unknown what it was, and the questions on what it will be began to swirl. This lasted for a long while, and when she was seen being in a place where she didn’t belong is when we really saw what it was. Story DLC for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. This one is titled Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and this time the main character we will play as is Chloe Frazer. Nadine Ross will be her partner for this adventure. I’m a big fan of Uncharted and while I knew that story DLC was coming, I didn’t think we would hear anything about it for a while. It’s unknown when it will be released, but it’s safe to assume sometime early 2017.

For the past couple of days there have been rumors that Marvel Vs Capcom 4 will be announced, and today those rumors are put to rest. Soon after the Uncharted: The Lost Legacy was announced, Shawn Layden came in and revealed a new trailer to Marvel vs Capcom Infinite. The trailer had Ryu, Iron Man, Captain Marvel and Mega Man. It wasn’t a long trailer, but it reveals what can be. Tonight at the Capcom Bowl, Capcom will premiere first ever gameplay footage. Marvel vs Capcom Infinite will come out sometime in 2017.

There was also a brief trailer to WipEout: Omega Collection. This collection will include WipEout HD, WipEout 2048 and WipEout Fury. It’s expected to be released sometime in 2017.

A new event for Destiny is coming called The Dawning. It will have Sparrow Races, new weapons, gear, game modes, decals and a lot more. The Dawning will come on December 13th.

At E3 2016, Sony announced that they are releasing a remaster of the Crash Bandicoot trilogy for the PlayStation 4. Today, we finally see what the game will look like. It seems to be the same game as before, but it looks better than ever. Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy will arrive sometime in 2017.

There is a Call of Duty World League championship happening tonight. Eight of the best teams in the world will compete in 4 million in cash prizes.

Capcom finally came out and revealed a brand new trailer to Resident Evil 7. The trailer showed more of the story and the game play. The final patch for the Demo, which has been opening up the house, will come out later today. Resident Evil 7 will arrive on January 24, 2017.

Up next they revealed a trailer to Ace Combat 7. The dog fighting game will arrive sometime in 2017 and will support PlayStation VR.

Akuma is coming to Street Fighter V along with four new fighters coming sometime next year.

The final trailer to The Last Guardian was shown a few days before its long awaited release. If you played Ico or Shadow of the Colossus, it seems you’ll be right at home with this.

In another surprise announcement PaRappa the Rapper, LocoRoco and Patapon are all being remastered for the PlayStation 4, and if you have Pro all three games will have native 4K. 2017 will also mark the 20th anniversary of PaRappa the Rapper. A demo is out now for PaRappa the Rapper.

A small harmless joke made reality, as Knack 2 is actually revealed. It seems to offer 2 player co-op and all the combat and puzzles that filled the original game. It seems to be released in 2017.

Despite coming out in January, there is already DLC talk for Gravity Rush 2. This new DLC will allow you to play as Raven, one of the main characters in Gravity  Rush 2.

A new trailer to Gran Turismo Sport is revealed. It will have pro support with native 4K and HDR.

After long last, we finally see something new with Ni No Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom. Some of the story, characters, combat and world are revealed. That will come out sometime in 2017.

Two Yakuza games are coming to the west. Yakuza: Kiwami and Yakuza 6. Yakuza: Kiwami will arrive sometime in 2017 while Yakuza 6 will be out early 2018.

Danganronpa v3 Killing Harmony will also come to the west for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.

A new Nier Automata trailer was released and the announcement that a demo will be arriving in the coming weeks.

Then there was an onslaught of trailers coming one after another.

Ys Origin

Dreadnaught

Pyre

Vane

Absolver

What Remains of Edith Finch

Nex Machina

Let it Die

After that montage they also announced that a handful of games will be coming out today. Including Lara Croft Go, Mother Russia Bleeds, Surgeon Simulator ER, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3  and Let it Die.

The surprises didn’t stop. Shawn Layden also announced that Windjammers is coming back for PlayStation 4 sometime in 2017.

A theme that has been going on in this conference was No Talk/All Trailers and that is exactly what they did. This time we have new trailers that they gave out quickly.

Starblood Arena

Nioh

MLB The Show 17, with Ken Griffey Jr. as the new cover.

Horizon Zero Dawn.

Then the show came to an end, but as always there is one last surprise that surpasses everything that came before it. I thought they showed too much of the exciting things too early. With this trailer, I was wrong.

The trailer starts off in a dense forest and as we pan around to see the surrounding area, we see that nature has taken back a town. It then cuts to a teenager adjusting her guitar as we see it’s Ellie. The camera then pans around the house as we see dead bodies strolled everywhere. It ends with Joel finding Ellie as she says that she will kill them all. It’s unknown what she is talking about. The Last of Us Part 2 doesn’t have a release date, but Naughty Dog had said that the game is still in very early development.

That is the PlayStation Experience Conference for 2016. It was a lot better than their E3 conference this year and last year’s conference as well. A lot of awesome surprises that makes me happy to own a PlayStation 4. Judging of all the games coming out next year, 2017 seems to rival 2015.
