Never Alone (Kisima Inŋitchuŋa) Review

NEW VOICE IN GAMING MISSES THE MARK

Never Alone came to fruition through collaboration between Upper One Games and the Cook Inlet Tribal Council. It’s actually the first indigenous-owned developer/publisher in the U.S, interestingly enough. In partnering up with representatives from the Inupiat tribe, an actual tribe dwelling in Alaska, Never Alone was born.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd Review (Vita)

THE WORLD IS HERS

Japan’s most popular digital pop star, Hatsune Miku, has been slowly and steadily taking over the world. In addition to performing several of her own concerts in the US, over the past few years she has opened for Lady Gaga, modeled for Marc Jacobs, and most recently, performed on The Late Show With David Letterman. Not bad for a girl that isn’t even real. In the middle of this uptick in worldwide popularity, SEGA cautiously localized and released one of their rhythm games featuring the idol: Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F. It was an unexpected success on this side of the Pacific, prompting SEGA to enthusiastically announce the sequel not long after. Now that I’ve spent some quality time with Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd, I can say it wasn’t a fluke — this is a damn good series of rhythm games. If we scored games based on how much they made the reviewer smile, I’d have to give this game a 10. But we don’t. Continue reading Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd Review (Vita)

Grand Theft Auto V Review

WELCOME BACK TO LOS SANTOS

Grand Theft Auto V was one of the best games to come out in 2013 and was a generation-defining experience for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners. With GTA V already selling more than 34 million copies on the previous generation, Rockstar hopes to continue the life of their most popular franchise on the new generation of consoles. However, is it worth the upgrade for those who have already played it last gen?

Tales of Hearts R Review

WORTH THE WAIT

Even though the Tales series’ fanbase has grown exponentially over the last few years, it felt like a longshot that its western fans would ever get to experience one of its Vita entries. When it was finally announced earlier this year that we would in fact get an English version of Tales of Hearts R, fans everywhere thanked Hideo Baba (producer of the Tales games) and Bandai Namco for taking a chance.  I am one of those fans.  We all understand that releasing a Japanese Vita game in an English market hasn’t seen the greatest success, and yet they still chose to do it… for us.  However, even though they chose to release it here – it doesn’t actually mean that it would turn out to be any good.   Continue reading Tales of Hearts R Review

Assassin’s Creed Rogue Review

QUESTION THE CREED

Stay your blade from the flesh of the innocent, hide in plain plain sight, never compromise the brotherhood, nothing is true everything is permitted. These are the tenets every assassin must follow, but after a misunderstanding Shay Patrick Cormac believes he was tricked into killing thousands of innocents and inevitably betrays his fellow assassins and joins the Templar order. This is the main premise of Assassin’s Creed Rogue. Shay must track down and kill those whom he still holds dear and stop his former mentor from what he believes will bring about the end of the world. Despite this unique premise can it hold its against its current-gen counterpart?

The Legend of Zelda X Mario Kart 8 Review

THE BEST KART RACER JUST GOT BETTER

Super Smash Kart are three words I never wanted to hear… until now. I originally wanted Mario Kart to stay in the Mario universe. But, I’m pleased to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the first DLC pack for Mario Kart 8. Not only is it amazing value for money but the crossover tracks and vehicles are, on the whole, fantastic. In fact, the only thing I want more of, ironically, is The Legend of Zelda.

Warlords of Draenor Review (In Progress)

November 13, 2014 (With the launch of World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor we’ve decided to do our review of the game over the course of leveling a toon to max level and experiencing the current end-game content.  World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor is a MMO (Mass Multiplayer Online) game and requires a time investment and we feel this would be the best way to relay the information.)

Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom Review for Nintendo 3DS

MAYBE IT SHOULD REMAIN NAMELESS

Adventure Time is no stranger to video games–within the four years since the TV series’ debut, there has been nearly ten games across multiple platforms, Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom being the latest one. While WayForward Technologies has also developed the game for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox 360, we will be taking a look at the Nintendo 3DS iteration of the game.

Adventure Time: Secrets of the Nameless Kingdom puts you in the boots of Jake (the dog) and Finn (the human), who happen to be on a mission to save three lost princesses. The title’s story is standard fare with respect to videogames, certainly not original, and perhaps a touch sexist. More importantly, the plot line surrounding Adventure Time did not engage me. The question deserves to be asked, can Adventure Time overcome its tired tropes to become something more memorable?

Lords of the Fallen Review

RISING TO THE OCCASION

I remember the first time I ever played Demon’s Souls. I was working one day, and I had someone go grab a copy for me because I’d heard such great things about it. However, after actually playing the game, I didn’t understand a thing about it. I pestered a friend by text messaging him for hours as I tried to comprehend the world and mechanics of the game, but it was all for naught: Demon’s Souls just wasn’t for me. However, I could see how others enjoyed it. Lords of the Fallen falls (no pun intended) into a similar category for me. Continue reading Lords of the Fallen Review
