Chip’s Challenge 1 & 2 Review
YOWSER!
Chip’s Challenge is one of the hidden treasures of the late ‘80s (or early ‘90s, depending on which version you played). It’s a game with a very simple objective – navigate a maze and step on the exit tile – but through clever use of tricky obstacles, it presented a serious, engaging challenge that has remained close to the hearts of many of its original players. And, indeed, the Chip’s Challenge internet community remains vibrant and prolific to this day, working on speedruns of individual puzzles as well as creating and sharing homemade levels. It was for these people that series creator Chuck Sommerville developed Chip’s Challenge 2 a whopping 25 years ago. After its two-year development time, Chuck found out that the trademark to his game had been sold, and the new owner wasn’t interested in publishing the game. Now, after the success of spiritual successor Chuck’s Challenge 3D (and five years of negotiation with the rights holders), the unreleased sequel has finally arrived on Steam, along with an updated version of the original title. These games have a legacy, but have they aged well? Continue reading Chip’s Challenge 1 & 2 Review

Life is Strange Episode Three: Chaos Theory Review
UNFORESEEN CONSEQUENCES
Suffice it to say, Life is Strange may very well be one of the most surprising games of the year for many people, myself included. Prior to this game’s release, I knew very little about it apart from the fact that the premise looked promising and it might be worth checking out. Now, having played through more than half of this series and it having finally found it’s stride, I can happily tell you that I am seriously glad that I did. Continue reading Life is Strange Episode Three: Chaos Theory Review
Just Shapes & Beats Preview
While checking out indie games at Atlanta, Georgia’s Momocon, one game was absolutely hard to miss. That game was Berzerk Studios’ Just Shapes & Beats. After playing an early build of the game, I can already tell Just Shapes & Beats can crescendo into something special when it launches this winter. Continue reading Just Shapes & Beats Preview
Game of Thrones: Sons of Winter Review
SOLID AS ICE
The first three episodes of Telltale Games‘ six-episode season of Game of Thrones have taken us to Essos, King’s Landing, to the Wall, and even north of it. These episodes sufficiently introduced the point-of-view characters as well as some decent peripheral characters, demonstrating that making friends in Westeros can often be no easy task. Although this season’s harkening to the HBO series can sometimes feel a little shameless, it doesn’t detract from the dynamic storytelling Telltale is known for. With Episode Four: Sons of Winter, the plot has finally fully broken into its own stride without relying on familiar faces and familiar themes. Rather, the entire episode seems to be sprinting towards a climactic conclusion to the Forrester tale, while also making sure no detail is lost before the end.
