REVIEW – THE WITCH AND THE HUNDRED KNIGHT: REVIVAL EDITION

AWW, HOCUS POCUS

Do you have a thing for scantily-clad witches? What about strawberry blondes with bad tempers and abusive tendencies? Are you a small, vaguely blob-like creature who was plucked out of a dreamscape and forced to fight monsters? If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, I have a game for you! Hitman GO Review

ONE STEP AT A TIME

Hitman GO is an interesting game. While it has some of the mechanics that are most known for the franchise it doesn’t have any of the violence. Sure, you do “kill” targets, but it’s not in the graphic manner the series is known for. It’s more of taking pieces on and off of a board, much like a game of chess. Gemini: Heroes Reborn review

FORCE PUSHED

Gemini: Heroes Reborn is better than it has any right to be. Based on the recent Heroes television miniseries Heroes Reborn, the game has all the trappings of an IP-tie in video game, including unimpressive presentation and a lack of creative design. However, the gameplay’s main component, combat, became the game’s saving grace that kept me entertained all the way to the end. What should have been a typical example of a bog standard title based on a pre-existing intellectual property manages to be a step above its preconceptions, if in a unsubstantial way. Pneuma: Breath Of Life Review

A WHOLE NEW WORLD

Puzzle games these days seem to be centralized around the mobile marketplace. Titles like Candy Crush Saga and Bejeweled have millions of downloads because of their bright colors and simplistic gameplay. It’s been quite a while since a first-person puzzler was released to the world, or if there has been one, I haven’t noticed. So I was fortunate that Pneuma: Breath Of Life crossed my path. Deco Digital Studios did a fantastic job of creating a world that not only looks amazing, but is filled with tough yet manageable puzzles and an interestingly philosophical storyline.

LAYERS OF FEAR REVIEW

ABSTRACT HORROR

I returned to find my home in its usual state of disarray. Rats scurried underfoot, disappearing into cracks in the walls as I moved toward the staircase. Papers and books lay spread over the the dining table, lit candles flickering nearby with each whistling breeze which cut through our decaying home. I blinked, my eyes barely adjusted to the dim lighting before a noise beckoned me from the kitchen — and what I saw next was bloodchilling. This is Layers of Fear. Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam Review

CRUMPLED AND FOLDED

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam is the type of game that leaves you with a worse impression than you think it deserves. At its foundation, Paper Jam is a solid if simple turn-based RPG much like the rest of the Mario & Luigi series whose charming comedic quips can appeal to both children and fans of the Mario series. For the most part, that foundation keeps the game engaging enough throughout its 25-30 hour run time. However, what’s built on that foundation drags the overall experience down with its creatively pisspoor implementation of the Paper Mario world, constant backtracking, and fruitless busy work. By the time I saw the credits roll, Paper Jam had long worn out its welcome.

FINAL FANTASY EXPLORERS REVIEW

A SINGLEPLAYER PERSPECTIVE

I arrived on the island of Amostra a few short days ago and began my journey as an explorer. Crystals are a hot commodity, y’see, and this isolated land is rich with ‘em! Hunting them down seemed like an easy way to make a living. Then I stepped into the lush, wind-swept plains of Leggi Steppe, and a realization struck me — this place is infested with monsters! Welcome to Final Fantasy Explorers. Continue reading FINAL FANTASY EXPLORERS REVIEW

LEGO Marvel’s Avengers Review

LEGO’S ASSEMBLE!

LEGO Marvel’s Avengers is the latest iteration of the LEGO videogame franchise, following in the footsteps of LEGO Jurassic Park, LEGO Batman, and other popular licenses. Promotion and buzz on the game promised an immense open-world, gigantic character list, and faithfulness to the Marvel cinematic Universe (MCU). Though the game can suffer from overly-simplistic challenges, LEGO Marvel’s Avengers is a fun, captivating, and exciting gaming experience.  Continue reading LEGO Marvel’s Avengers Review
