Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess Review (Vita)
PAIN IS GOOD
Last year saw the release of Deception IV: Blood Ties, a somewhat puzzly action RPG with an unusual premise: instead of attacking your enemies, you lay traps for them to walk into. Much like another Koei Tecmo title, Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, the game has been rereleased with some new content in order to get it on the PS4, with Vita and PS3 getting digital releases. This new version, Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess, features an extensive new campaign with a new main character, but is it worth buying the game again? Continue reading Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess Review (Vita)
Rocket League Review
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!
Rocket League is Psyonix’s insane successor to Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars. While you may have passed on the developer’s last title, Rocket League is simply fun and a game competitive gamers can’t miss. Continue reading Rocket League Review

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back Rewind Review
IF WE DON’T HAVE ANY FRIENDS LEFT ON THE SURFACE, THEN WE NEED TO FIND AN ENEMY.
Do you remember Crash Bandicoot? If you’re still in high school, probably not. Back in the 90s, when Sony had first entered the console race, a little known developer called Naughty Dog developed Crash Bandicoot, a platformer that had the 3D visuals and mechanics of games like Super Mario 64 but the level design of a classic 2D platformer. The original was a big hit and the appeal of Crash himself made him the company’s unofficial mascot. A sequel was released a little over a year later and is widely considered to be the best in the series. Let’s see if that remains true today and take a look at Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. Continue reading Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back Rewind Review
Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition Review
Backtracking for New Experiences
This year is quickly becoming Capcom’s year of re-releases. Already in 2015, we have gotten Resident Evil HD Remaster, DmC: Devil May Cry – Definitive Edition, and Mega Man Legacy Collection is on the way later this summer. Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition is the latest re-release from Capcom and it comes packed with a new difficulty, two new campaigns with three new characters, an arena mode and turbo option originally exclusive to the PC port, and a graphical upgrade. With all this extra content and improvements, Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition is the definitive version of Devil May Cry 4, but not without some serious caveats. Continue reading Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition Review
Adventures Of Pip Review
Pip Pip Hooray!
Adventures of Pip is a 2D platforming title filled with action, adventure, and a delightful gameplay twist. The combination of its novel ideas and great platforming mechanics from games like Castlevania, Guacamelee, and Ninja Gaiden, makes Tic Toc Games’ first console project an outstanding start for the developer.
Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric review
Sonic BAMF!
I had no faith in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric before it came out. At first, I held off on judging the redesigns of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy because, as a Sonic fan, I was used to new ideas being tried with the franchise. However, after seeing actual gameplay of the game at E3 2014, I knew that not only was the game in trouble, but Sega would be as well since they were developing a new TV show and merchandising based on this idea. There was very little of the Sonic style and feel in the game, and it looked like a generic platformer that you would find dirty and uncared for in the discount section at Walmart. Everyone who has played this game has declared it an unmitigated disaster on the level of the infamous Sonic the Hedgehog from 2006 so I was expecting the worst. However, now that I have played and finished it, I think the hyperbole of the internet has gotten the best of us. Continue reading Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric review
You Must Build a Boat Review
GRINDING FOR THE GRIND’S SAKE
You Must Build a Boat is both the title and the objective of the latest effort from EightyEight Games. A follow-up to their previous game, 10000000, this game features a similar combination of frantic match-3 action with RPG-style combat and progression. There’s a lot more to it this time around – everything has been expanded in some way. Do the new features buoy a simple formula to new heights, or do they drag it down beneath the waves? Continue reading You Must Build a Boat Review
Chip’s Challenge 1 & 2 Review
YOWSER!
Chip’s Challenge is one of the hidden treasures of the late ‘80s (or early ‘90s, depending on which version you played). It’s a game with a very simple objective – navigate a maze and step on the exit tile – but through clever use of tricky obstacles, it presented a serious, engaging challenge that has remained close to the hearts of many of its original players. And, indeed, the Chip’s Challenge internet community remains vibrant and prolific to this day, working on speedruns of individual puzzles as well as creating and sharing homemade levels. It was for these people that series creator Chuck Sommerville developed Chip’s Challenge 2 a whopping 25 years ago. After its two-year development time, Chuck found out that the trademark to his game had been sold, and the new owner wasn’t interested in publishing the game. Now, after the success of spiritual successor Chuck’s Challenge 3D (and five years of negotiation with the rights holders), the unreleased sequel has finally arrived on Steam, along with an updated version of the original title. These games have a legacy, but have they aged well? Continue reading Chip’s Challenge 1 & 2 Review
