While recent horror games mostly fit into the first-person, hide-n’-seek mold, some gamers yearn for the good ol’ days of third-person survival horror. Invader Studios aims to cater to that crowd with its upcoming title, Daymare: 1998. I sought more info about this promising game, and Michele Giannone of Invader Studios was kind enough to grant an exclusive interview. Take a look! Invader Studios Launch Daymare: 1998 Kickstarter
Invader Studios once garnered attention with its fan-made remake of Resident Evil 2 — until Capcom stepped in, ending that project. Now it aims to charge forward with a new IP of its own with Daymare: 1998. Continue reading Invader Studios Launch Daymare: 1998 Kickstarter
Long Live Resident Evil
Back in June I proclaimed Resident Evil is dead, primarily because of the identity crisis the series went through starting with Resident Evil 4. That later led to the insulting mess that was Resident Evil 6, and now a seemingly drastic new direction for Resident Evil 7. Thus, the series as we knew it seemed doomed, but… maybe there’s still some life left in this old zombie after all? Continue reading Long Live Resident Evil

REVISITING SURVIVAL HORROR
Horror Month is here! While you may not gleam this little factoid by browsing my author tag, I love horror games. As the dark, chilly month of October rolls around every year, I find myself increasingly eager to play through titles filled with cheap scares, thought-provoking puzzles, and downright terrifying atmosphere. I’m sick like that. Thus, join me for another review — if you dare! Continue reading Retro Grade: Resident Evil 2
Fans Create Great Games, Big Companies Handle It Poorly
Fandom can be a crazy thing. While all of us are passionate about something, a select few choose to go above and beyond the usual standards and find themselves driven to do something remarkably creative — all to pay tribute to a video game or series they love. Developers are quick to react to these fan-made projects… but they often do so in the worst way imaginable. Continue reading Fans Create Great Games, Big Companies Handle It Poorly
Resident Evil is Dead
Yes, friends, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was just revealed at Sony’s E3 conference, and the internet has exploded. Whether positive or negative, there’s a buzz in the ether about this drastic new direction of Capcom’s long-lasting Resident Evil (RE) series. Looking to be a soft reboot with a new first-person perspective, as well as a cast of all-new characters, there’s a lot for longtime fans of the series to be worried about. If you’ve been following the series closely over the years, however, this should come as no surprise. This has been a long time coming and, if you’ll allow me, I’ll explain how we got here… and why Resident Evil as we know it is dead. Continue reading Resident Evil is Dead
The Ugliest of the Good and the Bad
Opinions are wonderful, aren’t they? We all have our personal likes and dislikes, and whether we know it or not, some are just downright moronic. So, what better way is there to illustrate that point than to flaunt our own idiocy? Let’s start with some games I’m convinced are good, and then I’ll tell you why that game you love is terrible. Shall we proceed? Continue reading The Ugliest of the Good and the Bad
DIGITALLY DOOMED: RESIDENT EVIL 1.5
We all have that one game that we were beyond excited for, only to find out it was canceled. Perhaps it was never even announced, quietly snuffed out to be discovered later. This can happen for many reasons, from the sudden closure of its development studio, to the unexpected decision to go in a different direction. These games were doomed to never see release, but that doesn’t mean the concepts were bad. Today I’m going to talk about one such game, known to fans as Resident Evil 1.5, which never saw the light of day. Continue reading DIGITALLY DOOMED: RESIDENT EVIL 1.5
