Retro-Grade: Kingdom Hearts 2

Applause must be given to Square Enix and Disney for taking a chance with the original Kingdom Hearts. Taking both the family friendly series of the Disney movies and combining these with some of the dark themes of Final Fantasy must have been a risk. Continue reading Retro-Grade: Kingdom Hearts 2

MONG’s Best of 2014 Award Winners – Part Two

2014 was certainly a wild year for gaming.

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One both set record sales for a console’s first year on the market, reassuring gamers and “analysts” everywhere that console gaming is here to stay.  Microsoft decided to release a Kinect-less Xbox One bundle after saying it would never happen.  The PlayStation 4 failed to release any major blockbuster first party games during the holiday season, while the Xbox One released a hit new IP in Sunset Overdrive.

We saw the rise and fall of mobile games like Flappy Bird.  Games like Titanfall,Watch Dogs, and Destiny were all finally released only to be ripped apart by gamers with too much hype.  While less hyped games like Wolfenstein: The New Order, Valiant Hearts: The Great War, and The Evil Within managed to blow everyone away.  We were flooded with “HD remakes” of games – some that we have wanted for a long time, and some that were just released a year ago on last generation consoles.

All of that combined to make this years Best of 2014 Awards a really fun one.

If you missed out on yesterday’s awards, go here! But, with the first set of awards out of the way, here comes the second set! Continue reading MONG’s Best of 2014 Award Winners – Part Two

However, unlike with the previous game, I hadn’t played Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep when it originally came out on the Play Station Portable in 2010. Despite generally positive reviews during its launch, the question still lingered: how would the last-gen handheld game fare on home consoles?

Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix Review

Almost 10 years ago, I remember sitting in my basement during middle school, anxiously waiting for my PlayStation 2 to load Kingdom Hearts II so that I could start playing. The past few weeks, I found myself doing the same thing, only this time it was with my PlayStation 3, while cramped in my college bedroom.  And, just like back then, excitement welled up inside of me that would continue while I played the game, as well as much longer afterwards. The Kingdom Hearts series has captivated many Square Enix and Disney fans alike over the years. Whether looking for similarities to Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series or just enjoying the childish wonder that Disney brings, Kingdom Hearts II has generated interest and appeal from players and fans alike.
