MONG Podcast 98 | Wait, Why Did I Need a Key?

This lovely Tuesday night the crew got together for episode 98 of the MONG Podcast. It was their time, their time down there to talk about a costco’s worth of topics spread across the News from Nowhere AND the Thought from Nowhere! They covered the looming voice actors strike as well as the release date of Campo Santo’s Firewatch and what little information CD Projekt Red is stringing us along with about their upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 title. The thought from nowhere was video game tropes. Why did I need a key for the wooden door when I’ve got a bazooka? Wait, where are these infinitely spawning soldiers coming from? What exactly is bringing me back to life? All of these questions and more were asked! Join us! Continue reading MONG Podcast 98 | Wait, Why Did I Need a Key?

Until Dawn Review

Oh Death

Until Dawn has had a long and strange road to its eventual release on PlayStation 4. Originally announced as a PlayStation 3 title utilizing the PlayStation Move controller, Until Dawn has been revamped, reworked, and is now out as a PlayStation 4 game utilizing far more traditional controls. Before we get into my review of the game, here are a few caveats. I’m a a big horror movie fan, especially of the slasher genre. I don’t generally play a lot of horror games, survival in particular, have never really gelled with me. My expectations for Until Dawn were cautiously optimistic; this seemed like a game I wanted, I’ve never really had the strong urge to play as a cop/photographer/sweet dude who is part demon while battling against hordes of zombies/ghosts/other sweet demons, but I have wanted to see someone take a stab at doing a game that dwells in the slasher drama. I wanted to play as a group of irresponsible teenagers being picked off one by one. Until Dawn seemed like it would offer that, but it also seemed liked an idea that could be really lukewarm if failing in execution, and there were some warning bells considering the amount of time it took to get Until Dawn to market. The question is, how did Until Dawn come out?

How Sony Doubled Down on Gamer Choice in August

With this current console generation, Sony has achieved much success by making the right choices.  Before the PlayStation 4 even launched, it was the choice not to implement any DRM policies, giving gamers the freedom to share their games how they wanted.  It was the choice to launch $100 cheaper than Microsoft and to emphasize games over multi-media that garnered much positive fanfare among hardcore gamers. The company realizes the power of making the right choices and in the month of August they are putting choice in gamers’ hands in two distinct ways.  Continue reading How Sony Doubled Down on Gamer Choice in August
