Quick Time Event – 13 – Why Lizard Squad Aren’t Hackers

On this week’s Quick Time Event, the team discussed Lizard Squad’s Christmas attack on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, whether or not they should be considered hackers, if what they are doing is right or not, and their overall opinions of the group.

The team was also asked by a fan whether or not they thought it is justifiable for people to ask for compensation from Sony and Microsoft because of the attacks over the weekend.  So, what do you think? Continue reading Quick Time Event – 13 – Why Lizard Squad Aren’t Hackers

Achievements: What We Need to Have Fun

In 2002, streamlined video game achievement systems were first introduced and welcomed as the beginning of the newest innovations. Questions of a game’s trophy or achievement support feel age old (in fact, exclusive to a previous generation), so much so that today, we live with the expectation that our purchases will always supply those little indicators of success. Whether you’re the achievement fanatic or trophy contrarian, these imaginary awards are, more than ever, an unavoidable part of the entire gaming experience.

How Final Fantasy VII Ruined JRPGs For Me

I still remember the year I wrote off JRPGs completely and the game that caused it. It was 1997 and I was 11 at the time. I had gotten a PlayStation a few months ago for Christmas and at that time I was playing Tomb Raider, Resident Evil and other PlayStation classics. I also remember playing a lot of that demo disk that came with the system. Continue reading How Final Fantasy VII Ruined JRPGs For Me

Why We’re Still Getting Newer Editions of the Old 3DS

In September 2010, handheld gaming was changed forever. The Nintendo 3DS was released in Japan and showed the world that two screens can work in an innovative and creative way. Four years after its release, we’ve seen the Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 2DS, and scores of special editions of them. Two weeks ago, Nintendo made a surprise announcement that they’re creating a “new” Nintendo 3DS with increased capabilities and eventually exclusive games. However, even with that announcement, Nintendo is still creating and promoting various new editions of the “old” 3DS. So, with this “New” Nintendo 3DS announced, why are we still getting newer editions of the “Old” Nintendo 3DS? Continue reading Why We’re Still Getting Newer Editions of the Old 3DS

A GOOD GAME MIRED IN SMALL PROBLEMS

In 2008 the Canadian studio Digital Extremes released a game called Dark Sector, a gritty action game about a special operations soldier who got infected by a new biological weapon that turned his arm into an oversized throwing star. It did okay, but it had strayed away from its original vision of an awesome space ninja in a super-powered suit of armor. Enter Warframe. Digital Extremes took that vision and turned it into the free-to-play mission-based shooter we have today. It originally released for PlayStation 4 last November as a launch game and it has been in beta form on PC since March 2013. Finally Xbox One owners get a chance to see what this game is all about.
