With a release date finally announced for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, fans and sceptics alike have a renewed sense of curiosity in the latest iteration of the series. As a lucky Club Nintendo member, I was fortunate enough to attend a private New York City event hosted by Nintendo. My first endeavor – check out The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Happily, as the door for the event opened and a slew of endorphins pumped me up, I finally got my hands on this game, and with it, some fascinating thoughts on it. Nintendo Blew a Key Component of Online Subscriptions- A Switch in Policy is Needed
The saying “iron sharpens iron” is a belief in the fact competition among peers will make both parties stronger. That having a rival or opposing force to push you, will only lead to achieving new heights and avoiding remaining stagnant or complacent. Clearly this is not a mantra Nintendo fully believes in when it comes to its online services. While Microsoft and Sony have continued to add value to their online ecosystem, Nintendo is sadly lagging behind. The Spoiler-Addict’s guide to the Nintendo Switch presentation
As we finally approach the end of the dark, twisted and maleficent tunnel that has been the Wii U era, the topic on everyone’s minds is the Nintendo Switch. While our mouths froth in advance of tomorrow’s livestream and following press events, it is only natural to scour the internet for any nugget of information to slowly peel back the veil of secrecy.

Final Fantasy XV and the power of friendship
From its opening moments, Final Fantasy XV is a game that is completely built upon the bond of its four protagonists. The game drops players into a relationship that has been seasoned and seared over many years and experiences. While supplemental material, namely the Brotherhood anime, fleshes out the individual characters and their relationships with player character Prince Noctis, the game is designed in a way that even those with no prior knowledge can sense their deep connections through mechanics and acting. The result is the most real friendship that I have ever seen in gaming.

Did Sony announce The Last of Us Part II too early?
Sony’s fan-focused PlayStation Experience (PSX) event is in full swing in Anaheim, California this weekend, and the console-maker/publisher didn’t disappoint with its annual keynote that kickstarted the festivities. In a conference that featured Uncharted story DLC, Marvel v. Capcom Infinite, a slew of classic remakes/masters and smaller titles perfect for the passionate crowd, The Last of Us Part II was the megaton announcement that pushed supporters into rabid fervor. As a sequel to one of the best games ever made, the game was the most impressive reveal in Sony’s entire arsenal, but it begs the question: was the game announced too early?

Long Live Resident Evil
Back in June I proclaimed Resident Evil is dead, primarily because of the identity crisis the series went through starting with Resident Evil 4. That later led to the insulting mess that was Resident Evil 6, and now a seemingly drastic new direction for Resident Evil 7. Thus, the series as we knew it seemed doomed, but… maybe there’s still some life left in this old zombie after all? Continue reading Long Live Resident Evil

This week marks the 10th anniversary of the PlayStation 3. Released on November 17, 2006 Sony’s third console wasn’t always one of the best consoles around. After the monumental success of Pokémon Go, many wondered what Nintendo’s next step into the mobile market would be. Their questions were answered during Apple’s annual September keynote, which saw Shigeru Miyamoto himself onstage to announce Super Mario Run, a mobile Mario game built from the ground up for mobile devices.

5 games for our post-election reality
The 2016 United States presidential election has come to a close, and what a doozy it has been. Private email servers, sweaty primary debaters, small hands and a great wall are but a few of the highlights from the bizarre cycle. Frankly, I’m exhausted, and I’m sure many of you share the same sentiment. Luckily, we are passionate about a medium that is centered around the concept of virtual escapism. After such an emotionally draining few days, I believe that what many of us need is a good game to take our minds off of doomsday prophesying.
