After the monumental success of Pokémon Go, many wondered what Nintendo’s next step into the mobile market would be. 5 games for our post-election reality

The 2016 United States presidential election has come to a close, and what a doozy it has been. Private email servers, sweaty primary debaters, small hands and a great wall are but a few of the highlights from the bizarre cycle. Frankly, I’m exhausted, and I’m sure many of you share the same sentiment. Luckily, we are passionate about a medium that is centered around the concept of virtual escapism. After such an emotionally draining few days, I believe that what many of us need is a good game to take our minds off of doomsday prophesying.

Fall’s gaming dominance is over

The fall has always been the busiest part of the gaming year. The end of September sees the beginning of a yearly onslaught of games that puts constraints on every wallet and day planner in the industry. For the players, the fall was the beginning of the arduous wait until our Holiday wishes were made reality. Black Friday was the date that put a hard cap on the season and virtually guaranteed increased success for an individual game or publisher.

And it is in the process of losing its relevance.

Destiny: Rise of Iron Review

Pay the iron price

As Destiny: Rise of Iron launches the third year of Destiny content, it is incredible to fathom the path that the game has taken to reach this point. Despite lukewarm initial reception that has dogged the game since release, Destiny has persevered thanks to passionate fans and incredible core gameplay mechanics. Rise of Iron provides a continuation of the progress made in last year’s The Taken King, but does little more than add sand into the Destiny sandbox. While it remains to be seen how long the content in the expansion will satiate the rabid community, what is here is a welcome addition to the Destiny universe.

Retro Grade: Mega Man 2

A Mighty Reminder

The Mega Man series has long held a reputation for a perfect blend of incredible level design, diverse arsenal of weapons, and challenging platforming and combat. As Capcom let the franchise wither on the vine, creator Keiji Inafune took matters into his own hands with the inarguably terrible Mighty No. 9. After spending a weekend with Mega Man 2, the most fondly remembered of the original NES series of games, I fully comprehend the extent of the injustice that Mighty No. 9 did to the Blue Bomber and am reminded of what true gameplay supremacy looks like.
